Bye, Bye Manny

Dear Manny Ramirez,

I heard about the trade today on ESPN. Mommy and I will miss you. I hope you have fun with the Dodgers. Maybe Uncle Nelson can go and see a game before he leaves LA? I am so jealous... I always hoped Mommy would take me to Fenway to see you play with the Red Sox. Oh, well. There is always Big Papi and JD Drew. He's my man!

I will miss your charisma, dreadlocks, home runs and occasional outfield bobble. Good luck in the West.

Love,
Aiden

And now I will eat...

... Nigel's tail.

Yum. A bit hairy, though. Can we sweeten it with applesauce, mommy?

Apples

A new favorite: APPLES.
Or rather, organic applesauce.

Can I have some more, mommy?

Sweet Potatoes

YUM.

My favorite, so far!

Pears

I am not quite sure what to think of this new fruit mommy is feeding me. It is a tad tart.

Tomorrow, I will eat something called sweet potatoes. The next day, mommy says I can try a new cereal as well, maybe oat or barley! This solid food thing sure is fun... I think I like spoons the most, though!

Rumor has it, Sunday I can eat applesauce and watch the Red Sox play the Yankees. Awesome!

Rice Cereal

This just keeps getting better and better...

I think I need a napkin, Mommy.

First Food

In honor of turning six months old, Mommy let me eat solid food.

On Sunday, July 20th, Mommy fed me rice cereal in my high chair. I got to wear a bib and everything.

It tasted good, but I wanted to hold the spoon myself.

I particularly like the colorful plastic ones Mommy bought.

What, do I have something on my chin?

I will have lots of things to teach him... and Pierce can show me how to fish!

We love you!

Mommy and Aunt Julie

Yesterday, Mommy and Aunt Julie attended their first Redbirds game together. G-dad scored some suite tickets from Fed Ex, so the girls watched the game in style. I heard mommy say that Julie ate a lot- funny, because that sounds more like mommy than anyone else. Man, can she put away some food!

The best part about their outing: it was a day game so I spent time with G-Dad! I had the best day- we did all sorts of things... and I was in a jovial mood when mommy came home. So good, in fact, that I went to bed over an hour past bedtime. It just felt like a good time to play and blow raspberries on mommy's shoulder, you know? I mean, I can sleep anytime...
I have to admit, I was a little jealous that mommy saw baseball without me (and Aunt Julie looked cute, thus increasing my jealousy). But I forgive her- she works hard to entertain me, day in and day out. I gave her one heck of a day today, too. He he. I'm pretty happy now, though, sitting outside, watching the trees and listening to the birds.

Did somebody say Homerun Derby tonight at Yankee Stadium? I may have to stay up late again!

My very first WORD

On Saturday, July 12th, Aiden said his first word. "Hi."

No seriously, he said, "Hi." He looked straight at me, within minutes of us waking up, and said, "hi." I thought it was a mere coincidence, and told G-dad several hours later: "Aiden does not know what he is saying." As if on cue, Aiden turned in my direction and said quite clearly, "Hi."

I called Gram immediately, and Aiden mustered a small, "hi" as we took the phone away from him (sorry you missed it, Gram) and remained silent most of the day. I am still hoping that I will hear ma-ma soon...

My Crib

Ten days ago, I started sleeping in my crib all by myself. Every night, every nap, everyday. Aren't I a big boy now?

I might wake mommy up a few more times than normal... but she likes having her room back to normal (I know those late night baseball games are fun to watch in bed). I hear mom is also catching up on phone calls in the privacy of her room- boy, isn't the crib great?

Last night, G-dad babysat while mommy went out. Sorry I woke up three times... I guess I am just not ready to sleep through the night in my room... but I am trying! Hey, G-dad, what's a date?

I love Rafa

This morning, Mommy and I turned on Wimbledon when we were cuddling in bed... yet somehow, Rafa Nadal and Rodger Federer were still playing after 2 pm. What is a rain delay?

I witnessed some amazing tennis; Nadal and Federer played the longest five set match in Wimbledon history and Nadal is the first man to win both the French Open and Wimbledon since Bjorn Borg in 1980. Wow. That is a long time!

Mommy and Gram teared up when Nadal climbed into the stands to hug his mom- it was so touching. I promise to hug mommy after I win my very first tennis game. Or T-Ball game- whichever comes first!

This has been quite the weekend of sports: the Williams sisters in the women's final, Rafa breaking Federer's 5 year Wimbledon streak, and Red Sox at Yankee Stadium in a four game series... gosh, mom, what will we do next week?

Happy Birthday, Gram!

Today is Gram's birthday.

I wonder what we will do... will mom let me eat cake?

Tomorrow is my first Fourth of July celebration, but Mom says I am too young to watch fireworks. Someday we'll be shooting them at each other, and at Uncle Nelson.

Dial 1-800 BULLPEN

After a long day, Mommy was excited by the possibility that Boston may win. However, once Matsuzaka and Okijima left the mound, it all went downhill. During the 7th inning of Boston's third game against Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Boston used four- or was it five- pitchers. So Aiden decided to call Terry Francona.

"Get your bullpen in order," we thought Aiden said, although G-dad was busy grouching, so it was hard to determine exactly what he was babbling.
The old man finally convinced us to turn in at the bottom of the seventh, just as the Rays took the lead 7-4.

It was not a good day for baby, or Boston. Feeling defeated, by motherhood and the Tampa Bay Rays, Mommy went to bed early.
